This historic building shares its roots with the earliest days of Eureka. The site can actually be traced to being the town's first livery stable in the early 1870's. The building we see today was built in October of 1879 by owner Charles Lautenschlager, after his first attempt at a building burnt to the ground in a fire earlier that year. Like most Eureka structures, this building has worn many different faces. Until 1912, a saloon operated in the front of the building while the Old Corner Chop House ran in the back. It then became the Lani and Repetto Saloon and Eureka Brewery, followed by the Farmers and Merchants Bank. It then remained a bank until 2016 when Nevada State Bank decided to move its banking business elsewhere.
Since then, Eureka Restoration has had its eyes on the lot. Wanting to preserve but also move the building forward, restoration started midway through 2019, marking the steps toward Economy Drug gaining a new home. While the inception for this project happened years ago, the beginning of this site is truly marked by the Eureka Pharmacy Open House on Friday, September 20, 2019.
